Radiation Permits

Faculty members who need to procure radiation sources for research and/or teaching purposes must be formally approved by the Radiation Safety Committee. All faculty, staff and students who will be handling radionuclides must take the LSUHSC Radiation Safety Course, which is offered periodically by James Davis (jdavis3@lsuhsc.edu).  Approval will be granted if the applicant has had previous on-the-job experience handling radionuclides of a similar nature and quantity. Applicants who lack experience must work under an authorized investigator's approval to gain experience. The Application Form is available in Word and Adobe formats. Complete the application and mail directly to Dr. Dennis Paul (dpaul@lsuhsc.edu), Department of Pharmacology, MEB.

Temporary approval will be given after review of the application by the Radiation Safety Committee chairman. Full approval will be given after the Radiation Safety Committee meets and review the application. The committee meets at least three times per year.

All persons who handle radiation for research or teaching purposes must meet the requirements set by the Radiation Safety Committee. The requirements also apply to temporary employees such as work-study students and visiting scientists.
